Baltimore Orioles Inside Pitch 2008-09-18

Baltimore Orioles Inside Pitch 2008-09-18
The Orioles keep hitting. And despite an eye-opening performance from starters Sunday and Tuesday, the offense isn't getting much help from the pitching and defense.

The top four in the Orioles' batting order matches up well with any unit in baseball. On Wednesday, they helped a 14-hit, seven-run attack by going 9-for-19 with five RBIs.

Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, Melvin Mora and Aubrey Huff have been dangerous this season. Only Mora (.284) has an average below .300 for the season.

Manager Dave Trembley called it "frustrating" to know that his hitters are performing among the best in baseball, while his pitching staff erases any advantage the bats provide.

Wednesday, the Orioles' bullpen allowed five runs, as Toronto scored in each of the final four innings. Meanwhile, every Orioles starter had at least one hit, and six of the nine starters scored a run.

BLUE JAYS 8, ORIOLES 7: The Orioles blew a six-run lead in dropping the second game of the series to Toronto. The Blue Jays' bullpen allowed just one run on three hits in four innings, while the Orioles' relief corps allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
