Most likely, the only history the Orioles will create this year is an 11th straight losing season.

But thanks to some help from the schedule-makers, and a down season for the Yankees, the Orioles will help close Yankee Stadium in its final series this weekend.

"It's going to be a whole lot of fun," said Orioles manager Dave Trembley, a native of upstate New York. "It's going to be a thrill for everybody I'm sure."

The Orioles will close the legendary ballpark Sunday in a nationally televised night game, with rookie Chris Waters squaring off against Yankees veteran Andy Pettitte.

The Yankees are 7 1/2 games out of the wild-card lead with nine games remaining, so Sunday's contest will be the final baseball game in the historic park, which opened in 1923.

BLUE JAYS 3, ORIOLES 2: Ex-Oriole Jose Bautista homered and ex-Oriole Gregg Zaun drove in the go-ahead run for Toronto. The Orioles dropped the series, two games to one, when Zaun -- the nephew of legendary Orioles catcher Rick Dempsey -- doubled in two runs in the sixth.
