The Orioles are closing in on becoming the first franchise in major league history with three players to record 50 doubles in the same season. First baseman Aubrey Huff has 48 and right fielder Nick Markakis has 47.
There have been just 84 players to hit 50-plus doubles in a season, and just ten seasons in which three players in all of baseball have collected 50-plus doubles. Never has a trio on the same team accomplished the feat.
Roberts reached the 50-double plateau for the second time in his career. Roberts hit 50 doubles in 2004. He's already set a career-high with eight triples.
