No news wasn't good news for the Orioles on Tuesday. It was fantastic news.

Luke Scott's shoulder injury was deemed a sprain, a minor ailment compared to the potential tear Scott envisioned after injuring his left shoulder Sunday afternoon.

The magnetic resonance imaging of Scott's shoulder, injured while diving back into first base after a single Sunday, revealed no severe structural damage.

Scott explained his arm "tried to come out of (the) socket."

"Maybe there's a little bit of fluid built up, but basically I have a rotator cuff sprain," Scott said. "My external rotation is fine. I can lift my shoulder. I'd say a few days' treatment and I'll be back and ready to go."

Scott was batting .303 with five home runs in 29 games. If he remains questionable, the Orioles could recall one of three players: minor league journeyman Oscar Salazar, outfield prospect Nolan Reimold or outfield veteran Joey Gathright.

In the meantime, a healthy Scott will split designated hitter at-bats with Lou Montanez and Ty Wigginton.

ORIOLES 7, RAYS 5: The Orioles had the game in hand after just three innings, despite starter Mark Hendrickson failing to reach the third. Adam Jones homered in each of his first two at-bats, including one that capped a five-run second inning, in response to the Rays' five runs in the top half of the frame.
