Baltimore Orioles Inside Pitch 2008-07-29

Most of the Orioles' 25-man roster can be had before Thursday's non-waiver trading deadline. Adam Jones, however, is one of the few exceptions.

The Orioles' young center fielder finished a double short of the cycle Monday night at Yankee Stadium and smiled after he lined out to center in the ninth inning. Jones went 3-for-6 with a grand slam and five RBIs in the Orioles' 13-4 rout of the Yankees.

"My last four or five games felt a little odd," Jones said of a 2-for-18 stretch in his previous four games.

The Orioles would gladly take four or five "odd" games in order for Jones to break through like he did Monday.

Jones' grand slam was a towering shot hit on a 3-2 pitch with one out in the sixth. It was Jones' seventh home run of the season and gave the Orioles an 11-0 lead at the time.

As the Orioles approach the trade deadline, Jones, Monday's winning starter Jeremy Guthrie and right fielder Nick Markakis might be the only untouchables on the big-league roster.

ORIOLES 13, YANKEES 4: Jeremy Guthrie turned in a quality start and the offense broke through for 17 hits. CF Adam Jones hit his first career grand slam, and Baltimore beat former Orioles starter Mike Mussina for the eighth time in 25 tries. Every Orioles starter had a hit.
