--INF Oscar Salazar started for the third consecutive game. Salazar, who hit three of his five home runs in the previous two games, had a single and a walk in four plate appearances as the designated hitter in the series opener against Toronto.
--RHP Jeremy Guthrie was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. The transaction was made retroactive to Sept. 6, which leaves open the possibility that Guthrie could pitch in the season's final week, but Guthrie is likely finished for 2008.
--LHP Jamie Walker, who will undergo an MRI after the season, has been ineffective against left-handed and right-handed batters. Lefties are hitting .306 against him, but right-handers are 22-for-67 (.328) against the situational reliever.
BY THE NUMBERS: 3 -- Players who could reach 50 doubles this season. Through Sept. 14, DH Aubrey Huff had 48, 2B Brian Roberts had 47 and RF Nick Markakis had 45.
