--RHP Brian Bass will start Saturday's game, manager Dave Trembley said Friday. Bass, 26, has made 48 appearances this season, including three starts. He didn't allow a hit in 4 2/3 innings, but did walk four batters in Monday's start against Tampa Bay.
--RHP Jim Miller will meet with team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens Saturday to determine whether or not to undergo surgery on his right shoulder. While warming in the bullpen Tuesday, Miller tore a tendon that connects the lat muscle and humerus bone. --SS Juan Castro was in the starting lineup Friday, but was a late scratch after the strained groin he suffered earlier in the week had failed to show improvement. INF Brandon Fahey started in Castro's place.
--C Omir Santos made his third career start Friday night. Santos batted eighth, catching LHP Chris Waters, who he worked with at Class-AAA Norfolk for most of the season.
--3B Melvin Mora played Friday for the first time since Sunday's series finale in New York. Mora, who is battling a nagging hamstring injury, batted third and went 1-for-3 as the designated hitter.
BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- consecutive losses by the Orioles, through Friday, the longest such streak since the team dropped 14 in a row in 2004.
