--2B Brian Roberts is again a trade target in Chicago, only this time to the White Sox. A report on masnsports.com suggested White Sox general manager Ken Williams has interest in the Orioles' leadoff man and would be willing to discuss a deal that includes RHP Gavin Floyd, a Baltimore native.
--3B Melvin Mora will play for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. Mora, who backed out of the 2006 tournament because he was uncomfortable playing the outfield, batted .285 with 23 home runs and 104 RBI in 2008. --SS Cesar Izturis will play for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. Izturis, who signed with the Orioles in December, did not play in the 2006 tournament.
--LHP Mark Hendrickson could wind up in the Orioles' rotation or as their long reliever. But Hendrickson, 34, signed with the intent of being a starting pitcher. The Orioles have more holes in their rotation than in the bullpen.
--LHP Brian Burres could be the odd man out after LHP Mark Hendrickson's signing. Burres, who played a swing-man role for manager Dave Trembley last season, went 7-10 with a 6.04 ERA in 31 games.
--RHP Hayden Penn could be in line for a spot in the Orioles' starting rotation. The former prospect who was shut down last summer because of shoulder discomfort is out of options but reportedly is healthy.
BY THE NUMBERS: 81 -- Height, in inches, of LHP Mark Hendrickson, who is not necessarily the tallest player in franchise history at 6-foot-9. RHP Kam Mickolio, who debuted with the Orioles in 2008, and RHP Daniel Cabrera, non-tendered last month, also are listed at 6-foot-9.
