Baltimore Orioles Notes, Quotes 2008-06-23
--LHP Jaime Walker made his 500th career appearance Sunday, but it's one he'd just as soon like to forget. Brewers 1B Prince Fielder hit his second home run of the game off Walker. The two-run blast was the sixth home run Walker has allowed this season -- all of which are against left-handed batters.

--IF Freddie Bynum was designated for assignment Sunday afternoon. The swift utility man was batting just .222 with four extra base hits in 25 games, and lost his handle on the starting shortstop position. INF Alex Cintron will assume the starting role, having proven more capable at the plate since being recalled May 11.

--RHP Ryan Bukvich was recalled from Class AAA Norfolk Sunday afternoon and was immediately put to work. He allowed two hits -- including Prince Fielder's first of two home runs in the game -- and one run in two-thirds of an inning. The former Royals, Rangers and White Sox reliever was 5-2 with a 3.45 ERA in 20 games at Class-AAA Norfolk. He's 3-0 with a 6.12 ERA in 93 big league games.

--LHP Brian Burres will start against the Cubs Thursday. Burres, who has won his last two outings after being skipped in the rotation, is 6-5 with a 5.24 ERA. He threw 5 2/3 innings against Houston Thursday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He's also one of the team's more capable-hitting pitchers.

--RF Nick Markakis went 1-for-1 and drew four walks Sunday, reaching base in every plate appearance. He entered Sunday seventh in the American League with 42 bases on balls, and his four-walk day moves him to within 15 of his career high for a season -- 61, set last year.

BY THE NUMBERS: 22 -- Come-from-behind wins by the Orioles in 38 victories this season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "You don't want to make a living doing that, but we've done a nice job of battling every game. ... You've really got to tip your hat to the club. It's someone different every night. That's what makes our team special. The lineup grinds one through nine, and you don't know who it's going to be." -- 1B Kevin Millar after his June 19 walk-off single beat Houston, 2-1.
