--3B Melvin Mora was originally in Tuesday's lineup but was scratched. Mora has been sidelined since Aug. 29 with a strained left hamstring, and he told The Sun the leg is at about 70 percent.
--C Ramon Hernandez was in the lineup at first base Tuesday. It was his first start on the infield this season, a tactic manager Dave Trembley suggested he'd explore in order to keep Hernandez in the lineup with three catchers on the roster. --RHP Brian Bass will make his first major league start Thursday against Cleveland. Acquired last week in a minor league trade with Minnesota, Bass is making a spot start with RHP Jeremy Guthrie having been scratched due to the flu.
--RHP Jim Johnson was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, and Tuesday manager Dave Trembley revealed he's left the club for the remainder of the season. Johnson, who has some inflammation and an impingement in his right shoulder, will begin rehabilitating and strengthening his arm at the club's minor league complex in Sarasota, Fla.
--2B Brian Roberts was nominated by his teammates for the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award. Roberts, who is heavily involved in the pediatric wards at local hospitals, is up for election having been recognized for his community service, plus his on-field performance.
