The club's decision to go with 12 pitchers, rather than 13, has been scrutinized heavily. In the opening week, Orioles starters struggled to go deep into games, placing strain on a promising bullpen. The Orioles lack a viable left-hander with the ability to go multiple innings out of the bullpen, a role officials hoped Mark Hendrickson would fill. But because of a lack of better options in the rotation, Hendrickson is currently the Orioles' No. 4 starter.
PLAYER NEWS: --RHP Adam Eaton was added to the 40-man and active rosters Sunday to make the start in the series finale against Tampa Bay. Eaton, who is with his fourth club, was saddled with the loss in allowing four runs in four innings of work.
--SS Robert Andino got his first start in an Orioles uniform Sunday, batting ninth in the loss to the Rays. Andino, who went 1-for-4 with a strikeout, likely will see time in day games following night games.
--RHP Matt Albers was optioned to Class AAA Norfolk after Saturday's game. Albers, who had a 3.38 ERA in 2 2/3 innings of work, was sent down to make room for Sunday's starter, Adam Eaton.
MEDICAL WATCH:
LHP Rich Hill (left elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list March 29. He might return in mid-April.
LHP John Parrish (small tear in left shoulder) will not pitch in 2009. He was in camp on a minor league contract.
