--RF Nick Markakis extended his hitting streak to 16 games, one shy of his career best, by singling home Adam Jones in the eighth. He has reached base in 31 straight games, the majors' longest current stretch.

--3B Melvin Mora wasn't in the lineup Wednesday, as part of a planned day off in his second game back from the disabled list. He struck out as a pinch hitter and will play in Friday's series-opener at Toronto.

--C Chad Moeller went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and continues to be productive in the reserve catcher's role. Despite batting .292, though, he is destined for elsewhere when top prospect Matt Wieters is recalled in the coming weeks.

--DH Luke Scott hit one of his cold spells Wednesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. In his last three games, Scott is 0-for-7 with five strikeouts.

MEDICAL WATCH:

OF/INF Ryan Freel (head) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 after being hit in the head by a pickoff throw the previous day. He will start a rehab assignment with Class A Delmarva on May 1.

RHP Alfredo Simon (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He will have season-ending Tommy John surgery in late April.

LHP Rich Hill (left elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list March 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Frederick on April 24.
