--LHP Rich Hill (sore left elbow) allowed two runs on one hit and a walk while striking out four in 3 1/3 innings Wednesday during a rehab appearance for Class AAA Norfolk (Va.). He threw 63 pitches. Hill will throw again Monday, with the goal of increasing his pitch count toward 100.

--C Gregg Zaun returns to Toronto, where he spent the last five years, in the midst of a hefty slump. Zaun is batting .111 (6-for-54), including a 3-for-43 stretch since opening the season 3-for-11 with three doubles.

--C Matt Wieters will not be recalled just because C Gregg Zaun is struggling. Manager Dave Trembley said of his top prospect: "I think the Wieters thing is a separate entity all to itself. I don't think the decision on Wieters has anything to do with what Zaun does or doesn't do."

MEDICAL WATCH:

OF/INF Ryan Freel (head) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 after being hit in the head by a pickoff throw the previous day. He will start a rehab assignment with Class A Delmarva on May 1.

RHP Alfredo Simon (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He will have season-ending Tommy John surgery.

LHP Rich Hill (left elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list March 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Frederick on April 24.
