--RHP Danys Baez has quietly put together 8 2/3 consecutive shutout innings in the bullpen. Baez earned the win Monday, and manager Dave Trembley said, "He's done it again. I thought he was even better tonight."

--2B Brian Roberts ended an 0-for-18 slump with a single leading off the seventh inning Monday. Roberts walked to lead off the game, and homered in the eighth inning of a 2-for-4 game.

--RF Nick Markakis homered in the first inning to start a 3-for-5 night. He has reached base in 35 consecutive games dating to last season.

--OF Lou Montanez was originally in the lineup Monday but was unable to start because of lingering soreness in his right thumb. Montanez jammed the thumb on the Toronto turf making a diving catch late in Saturday's game.

MEDICAL WATCH:

OF Lou Montanez (sore right thumb) was injured making a catch May 2 and sat out on May 3-4.

RHP Dennis Sarfate (numbness in right middle finger) left the May 1 game, and he was unavailable May 2. On May 3, he was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

OF/INF Ryan Freel (head) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 after being hit in the head by a pickoff throw the previous day. He was expected start a rehab assignment with Class A Delmarva on May 1.

RHP Alfredo Simon (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He will have season-ending Tommy John surgery.

LHP Rich Hill (left elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list March 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Frederick on April 24.
