--OF Felix Pie has even more competition now that OF Joey Gathright is in the mix. The former Cub will head to Class-AAA Norfolk, but provides another athletic, defense-first speedster should the Orioles need depth.
--2B Brian Roberts went 2-for-3 with a walk, the lone Oriole to reach base more than once. Roberts is hitting .314 as a right-handed batter this season. --RHP Chris Ray was sharp in his lone inning of work. The former closer struck out one Yankees batter in one full inning, needing just 13 pitches for three outs. It was the first time in five outings Ray hadn't allowed a run.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Dennis Sarfate (numbness in right middle finger) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 2. He was expected to have an angiogram May 8. Manager Dave Trembley said Sarfate will be unavailable to the Orioles for "a while."
OF Lou Montanez (sore right thumb) was injured making a catch May 2 and sat out May 3-6. He started May 7.
OF/INF Ryan Freel (head) went on the 15-day disabled list April 21 after being hit in the head by a pickoff throw the previous day. He began a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie on May 1, but he did not appear as scheduled May 7. Team president Andy MacPhail said the team would reassess Freel's status.
RHP Alfredo Simon (sore right elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list April 15. He had season-ending Tommy John surgery in early May.
LHP Rich Hill (left elbow soreness) went on the 15-day disabled list March 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Frederick on April 24.
