Gameday Live 31: Yankees at Orioles
May 10, 2009 (Newsday delivered by Newstex ) --

Good afternoon Yankee fans! And Happy Mother's Day!

I'm Chris Mascaro and I'll be bringing you all of today's live game action, as the Yankees (14-16) take on the Orioles (13-18) at Camden Yards in Baltimore in the rubber game of a three-game set.

After a day off tomorrow, the Yankees will head Toronto for three games against the first-place Blue Jays.

All the players will be using the pink bats (pictured) provided by Louisville Slugger in honor of Mother's Day. The bats will be auctioned off on along with other memorabilia with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

According to Anthony Rieber down in Baltimore, scheduled starter Joba Chamberlain (1-1, 3.77 ERA) is expected to start despite an injured thumb (he popped a blood vessel in it during yesterday's batting practice). If he experiences pain during warmups in the bullpen, the Yanks will turn to Alfredo Aceves.

In his last start, Joba struck out a career-high 12 batters in 5 2/3 innings against Boston, but he still received the loss after allowing four first-inning runs.

The Orioles collectively bat just .171 off Joba. Nick Markakis has the best numbers versus the big righty, he's 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.

Koji Uehara (2-3, 4.42) will take the hill for the O's. In his first big-league start, Uehara pitched five innings against the Yanks , allowing one run on five hits and one walk. In his last outing against Tampa, Uehara took the loss despite striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings. He was bedeviled by three unearned runs.

The Yankees , which have lost six of their last seven, allowed 10 runs or more for the sixth time this season in last night's 12-5 loss. Phil Hughes was pounded for eight runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Said manager Joe Girardi: "It's not what we want to do. I think we are capable of pitching much better. Sometimes it's been the starter, sometimes it's been the bullpen."

Here are the lineups, also courtesy to Mr. Rieber:
