The news that the Boston Red Sox have signed American League MVP Dustin Pedroia to a six-year contract extension worth $40.5 million doesn't exactly help Nick Markakis make a case for Hanley Ramirez money ($70 million for six years), but it's not fair to put the situations in the same conversation. Markakis is eligible for arbitration this winter, which makes his situation much different from that of Pedroia, who has just more than two years of service time. They are very different players in very different circumstances.
