"I have some options. It depends on what I do in these first two games of this series," Trembley said before the Orioles faced Boston. "I'll probably have a decision after the game tomorrow or first thing Sunday."
Matt Albers is a possibility. So is Trachsel. Or, Trembley will consider using someone in the minors. Hayden Penn isn't an option, because the right-hander was placed on the disabled list this week with a shoulder injury.
"I have to think about all those guys down there," Trembley said. "If there's somebody ready, we'll give him a shot. If they're not ready, we're not going to do that."
Trembley previously skipped Trachsel because the Orioles had a run of off days, and the manager wanted to keep his younger pitchers working on four days of rest. Plus, the 37-year-old Trachsel has been struggling this season.
Trachsel won't be used out of the bullpen, so if he gets passed again in the rotation, Trembley acknowledged that the team would have to "re-evaluate" the right-hander's place on the roster.
